While visiting New Orleans in February 2023, Billy Merrill was the victim of a hit -and-run accident that left him in critical condition. He is suffering from multiple broken bones. brain bleeding and swelling. Billy has been in a coma since February 2024.

Billy was admitted to University Medical Center, New Orleans on February 13, 2024. He was discharged on May 7, 2024 to Ferncrest Living Center, still in New Orleans,  LA.

January 31, 2025
Billy was discharged from Ferncrest  Living Center  in New Orleans, Louisiana to Miracle  Hill Nursing Home and Rehabilitation  in Tallahassee, Florida.  This move allows the family to return home and regain some bits of a regular home routine  while Billy can begin the next leg of his journey...rehab!

On February 6, 2025 Billy died of natural causes due to the multiple injuries caused by the hit-and-run motor vehicle accident.  

March 4, 2025The Florida Medical Examiner changed cause of death to accidental death.
